Closing date announced for 2012 open submission period

World Weaver Press has been having a great time reading queries and sample pages for the many, many projects already sent our way this summer but, as we’re not open year-round to unsolicited queries, that fun must come to a (temporary) end.

When we opened to unsolicited queries for novels, novellas, collections, and nonfiction works on May 1, 2012, we purposefully kept the closing date for our open submission period vague, saying only that we would be open “through the summer.” As this is our first open reading period, we wanted to feel out the kind of response we were getting before announcing a specific closing date. We’ve been delighted with the response thus far and are now ready to set a closing date:

The 2012 open submission period will end on Friday, August 31.

Any queries received after August 31 will be encouraged to submit again on May 1, 2013, when next year’s open reading period begins.

It is our intent to have an annual reading period that starts on May 1 of each year, although closing dates may vary and will be posted on the website as they change. So if you miss this window of opportunity, there’s a chance to try next year.

Meanwhile we’re still looking for speculative fiction projects of all types to fill our 2013 catalog. Particularly, we hope to round out our list by finding a few more well written, interesting science fiction projects, steampunk, or urban/contemporary fantasies — and we’d absolutely love a piece of speculative fiction that’s primarily a romance.

With six weeks left to submit queries, we’re looking forward to a lot more summer reading!
